7-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Climb – Lemosho Route

  • OVERVIEW

The Lemosho Route is widely regarded as one of the most scenic and rewarding paths to Kilimanjaro's summit. Beginning on the western side of the mountain, it offers trekkers a gradual ascent, excellent acclimatization, and fewer crowds compared to other routes. Over seven days, you'll traverse pristine rainforest, cross the Shira Plateau, climb volcanic ridges, and finally make your way to the icy summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895m). The extended duration enhances safety and enjoyment, giving you the best chance to reach the Roof of Africa.

  • Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be warmly welcomed by our driver-guide. After a short introduction, transfer to Arusha for overnight stay. Depending on arrival time, enjoy a complimentary city tour to explore Arusha's vibrant streets and gardens.

  • Day 2: Londorosi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp

Drive to Londorosi Gate for registration, then continue to the Lemosho trailhead. Begin trekking through lush rainforest alive with monkeys, birds, and towering fig trees. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m) after 2-3 hours.

  • Day 3: Mti Mkubwa – Shira 2 Camp

Ascend gradually into the moorland zone, with giant heather and volcanic scenery. Cross streams and climb over Shira Ridge before reaching Shira 2 Camp (3,850m), set in meadows by a stream.

Shira 2 Camp

  • Day 4: Shira 2 – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

Trek east across the Shira Plateau, then ascend to Lava Tower (4,650m), known as the "Shark's Tooth." After lunch, descend to Barranco Camp (4,000m). This day is crucial for acclimatization, as you climb high and sleep low.

Barranco Camp

  • Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Climb the famous Barranco Wall, a steep but rewarding scramble with spectacular views. Continue through alpine desert to Karanga Camp (4,050m), located in a valley beneath the summit.

Karanga Camp

  • Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

Continue to Barafu Camp (4,700m), completing the South Circuit. From here, you'll enjoy panoramic views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Barafu Camp

  • Day 7: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Begin your final ascent at midnight. Trek steep switchbacks to Stella Point (5,739m) by sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement before descending to Barafu for lunch, then onward to Mweka Camp (3,090m) for overnight stay.

  • Day 8: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Arusha

Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate before transferring back to Arusha for a hot meal, shower, and well earned rest.
